In 2006, Vincent Urbain discovered and further developed Afrographic.

The Afrographic brand works hand in hand with women from Khayelitsha, one of South Africa‚Äôs biggest townships, to create the little animal key rings that Vincent sends all over the world. “It is a great way to give back to the community and to empower the ladies who make the key rings.” Vincent Urbain - Director at Afrographic.

All 15 different key rings of the range are made from first grade veg-tan leather, which is naturally treated leather that comes from the East Coast of South Africa.

The key rings go through numerous steps before they are ready to travel : they are cut first on a clicking press. Then the ladies skive the leather where needed and wet it so they can mold it. Finally, they hand stitch the little leather pieces by hand, burn all the threads and attach a ring and a tag on each little animal.
There is a lot of work involved and each animal is unique as the leather is a natural material and it has been completely handcrafted.

The keyrings can be bought directly from Urban Africa or can be found at numerous game reserves, lodges, elephant parks… Click here to see our partners.

Finally, Afrographic prides itself on ethical and empowering employment practices in South Africa, quality pieces and good relationships with its clients.
